BOOK REVIEW: ZEN AND THE ART OF MOTORCYCLE MAINTENANCE

Before starting, I would love to stir something else. Books deflowered me but every book I read doesn’t give me the power to differentiate it, you know every book has not got suaveness to magnetize your soul. The words sexy or beautiful are for books and girls. They deserve it. They deserve to capture your mind. Every time when you started to read a new book it gives you storage in the mind where you can pile up your imagination you could possibly think of.
Last week I started re-reading Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert Pirsig for the third time. The book was published in the mid-70s and soon after the publication, the book became best-selling. I love the way Mr. Pirsig define human life as a more dimensional way. In the book, you never heard philosophical thinking that enables you to dust off your brain. It is a simple story of motorcycle riding across America with author’s son Chris, who died after the publication of this book at the age of 22. Four hundred- and eighteen-pages book killed my whole weekdays. Robert believes that we need to change our process of seeing things to get the right ideas of our surrounding. At first, the book starts with a distinctive motorcycle riding with one couple, and he tells the beauty of riding.

Mr. Prisig wrote: “In a car, you are always in a compartment and because you are used to it you don’t realize that through that car window everything you see is just more to you are a passive observer and it is all moving by you boringly in a form.”
The above quote teaches you how to think and live a life beyond the self-trickiness. Self-trickiness is the word for how you deceive yourself to ignore your own reality to witness your circle. First, you need to get out of that circle and just look inside’s ugliness to avoid wrong things happening with us. It is obvious the manuscript was rejected by more than one-hundred-twenty publishers.
Author debates on classical and romantic thinking. He believes that we must find out intrinsic beauty to understand the outlook of life. You may think I must be pompous because I used to say that I make a good distance from self-help books, but it is not the book which stretches you the pathetic way to live or, better yet, thinks of life. It is the most powerful book written about how human should imagine life ahead along with technological advancement. This attractive piece of unforgettable narration of a motorcycle trip with his son Chris is the technique of seeing the unseen roadside.
The first thing I loved about this book, is that it is full of thoughtfulness and philosophy on a spiritual theme. Second, I admire the audacity of the writer not being hurried to tell his story in a forceful manner. The story flows on its way like you sit under the lukewarm waterfall. It hits your mind slowly and profoundly. The novel has many dangerous philosophical ideas which are quite hard to digest in one reading unless you are a hideous reader of philosophical kind of stuffs.
Robert Pirsig writes about conflict of vision of reality which is the main source of Quality. The book itself subtitled An Inquiry into Values. My feeling is that this book is more appropriate in our current time hence we are losing our consciousness to see real Quality, which Mr. Pirsig is trying to state in his novel. If you read this book, again and again, you will understand how we are down our grip from Quality. The book certainly provides you with many ideas that will give you incendiary spasm in your brain for a long-lasting time.

I am listing my own top ten books to read from a few years back and this book falls in number seven. Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance deepens your thoughts and maintain your soul to lead Quality life. A writer trying to explain romantic versus classical thinking. He is trying to make a distinction between these two arguments. Well, what makes you classical or romantic thinkers? One simple example of romantic personality is the children; they have access to see reality more openly than the adult. The main theme is that you can have pleasure in every notion as a key to lead a life towards Quality.
The book starts with a character, author himself and his son, and one Sutherland couple. The author loves to ride his bike and love to maintenance his motorcycle himself. On the other hand, the couple doesn’t want to maintain the motorcycle where the author starts questioning himself of why they don’t want to maintain their motorcycle in which you find pleasure. After that book gets deeper and deeper. You are definitely to immerse yourself in riding and his bottomless thoughts.
